The “Audio Devices” acetate's label, from the RCA Radio Recorders sessions in January 1957, lists “Presley / R.R. to RCA / Heartache Begin 2 Takes / Jan 13, 57 / (illegible) B” and has the word “TEST” written in red grease pencil. The label on the reverse reads “Presley / Radio Recorders / Have I told you Lately / Jan 19-57 / (illegible) B” and has “Cutter Test” written in red grease pencil. The side with “When Your Heartache Begins” side appears to have three tracks, but the first two are simply dead air. Then there is a :16 false start where Elvis' voice cracks and we hear some studio chatter. Then we hear the engineer call out “Take 6,” and then we hear that corresponding take in its entirety. This :16 false start and “Take 6” correspond to known recording records for this session. The “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You” side starts with Elvis speaking to the band in the studio and then we hear a :59 false start. After more studio chatter by Elvis and others, we hear a complete version of the song. Based on known recording session records, these are most likely takes 1 and 2 from the January 19, 1957, session. The second acetate contains six Sun Records songs recorded by Elvis Presley in 1954. Side one includes “I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone,” “Milkcow Blues Boogie,” and “Heartbreaker.” Side two includes “Blue Moon,” “Just Because,” and “I Love You Because.” RCA would release all of these songs within Elvis' first year on the label, whether as singles or on EPs. This incredibly interesting pair of early RCA acetates are accompanied by a 1990 collector's letter describing their acquisition from “a gospel station down south.” He describes the Radio Recorders session acetate specifically and references the other as “One has about 3 or 4 songs per side, at 33 RPM!” The letter goes on to describe how they were found: “A guy had been relocating a transmitter from the old building to be torn down. And these boxes of discs were tucked away.” The records measure 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter and are accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Condition: Both acetates are VG+, with only minor distresses. Playable condition.
