Elvis was an avid football fan, both of watching the sport and of tossing the pigskin around himself. He so loved watching professional football, he was known to view three games simultaneously on his televisions in Graceland. In an early 1960s interview he ranked football just beneath music as his favorite pastime. Elvis played a bit in high school, but it was afterwards when he was in the infancy of his fame that he purchased a ticket for every Humes High School student to attend the E.H. Crump Memorial football game in November 1956. Just a month following, after the release of his first movie Love Me Tender, Elvis took a day off right after Christmas to play a round of touch football with friends at the Dave Wells Community Center in Memphis on December 27, 1956. Elvis even sponsored his own team for a bit. Football was a sport he loved and which provided him an outlet, so Elvis would often toss the pigskin around on the grounds of Graceland. Offered are a group of twelve (12) photos with many featuring Elvis at an outdoor gathering that include two action shots, two surrounded by friends, two with a young fan, five of Elvis talking with another gentleman and one of the front of Graceland shot slightly from one side (this last photo has no white edge margins). Given Elvis’ schedule in late 1956 and early 1957 combined with the short sleeves he is wearing on the bright sunny day the photos were snapped, we can assume that they are either from December 1956 when he played at the Dave Wells Community Center in Memphis on the 27th or most likely from the late summer/early fall of 1957 shortly after Elvis moved into Graceland, where he spent his first night on June 26, 1957. Elvis was in Memphis through the end of August and again between September 11 and October 12 prior to the weather turning colder before the holidays. The twelve snapshots come with two 8 1/2 by 11 inch (21.59 x 27.94 cm) copies of photographs of the backyard of Graceland and another of a gentleman peering over a wooden fence. The snapshots are wonderfully candid photos of a relaxed Elvis obviously enjoying himself. Each measures 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (8.89 x 8.89 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The snapshots are all in excellent, like new condition with one containing the ink notation on the reverse "#2 Judy Whitehead."
