Trading cards were created as a small cardboard advertisement that could be used as a stiffener in packs of cigarettes, the first ones featuring popular baseball players of the time. Over the years and as the popularity of collecting these cards began to flourish, lithograph pictures on these cards expanded to a wide variety of subjects including nature, sports and even war, distribution expanded beyond just cigarette packs. They became a popular form of promotion and advertising for products and celebrities including sports figures, television and movie stars and musicians. Elvis Presley, the wildly popular musician and entertainer, was featured on a number of different trading card sets over the years, with the first being the Topps release in 1956. The demand for the set featuring Elvis, produced by Topps, spurred Topps to license A&BC card company of the United Kingdom to re-release the Elvis set in England. A&BC was one of the leading card companies in the UK at the time and distributed its cards almost exclusively in gumball machines. Offered is an original version of the 1956 Elvis bubble gum card set produced by A&BC. Like the US Topps counterpart, this set includes 66 cards, the first 46 of which feature full-color images of Elvis in his musical career on the front with a descriptive caption contained in a red guitar. The reverse contains a question and answer in Elvis’ “voice” to the posed inquiry, with his printed signature below. The only exception is the card that lists Elvis’ songs on the reverse. The remaining 20 cards feature Elvis’ film debut in Love Me Tender with full-color images of scenes from the movie captioned in a red movie clapboard instead of the red guitar. The reverse provides a description of the scene depicted on the front. The back of each card is printed with “©1956 EPE” and “Printed in England.” This set also slightly differs in size from its US counterpart, measuring 3 3/4 by 2 5/8 inches (9.52 x 6.66 cm). This collectible UK set, providing fans with insight into the life of Elvis in the 1950s, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

All cards are in Very Good to Excellent condition.
