This early 1955 black-and-white promo photograph depicts a young Elvis Presley with big smile, slicked back hair, and wearing a coat and tie. “Elvis Presley” is printed in the lower center margin. The photo has been signed “yours Elvis Presley” in ink on the front. While the ink has slightly faded, it is significant to note that the photo was not signed on the reverse like the vast majority of examples. In this image, Elvis apears to be wearing the same jacket and shirt as he is donning in well-known photograph of Elvis flanked by Sam Philiips and Bob Neal signing the management contract with Bob Neal which went into effect on January 1, 1955. The offered promotional photo was likely shot right around the time of the commemorative photo signing with Phillips and Neal. The most well known promotional images of Elvis were by William Speer and were shot in Speer's studio in July 1955, making this head shot earlier and more rare than the famous Speer images. The photo measures approximately 8 by 10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The image is in excellent condition overall with a horizontal crease through the upper quadrant near Elvis hairline and a small tear through the E in the printed Elvis in the lower margin. The marker signature has faded over time.
