Elvis’ first television show appearance was not The Ed Sullivan Show or even the shows of Steve Allen or Milton Berle—it was the Dorsey Brothers’ Stage Show on CBS in January of 1956. Elvis had six appearances on Stage Show between January 28, 1956 and March 24, 1956. These appearances not only helped Stage Show’s sinking ratings and introduced the new musician, Elvis, to a national audience, but they changed the face of popular music by bringing rock ‘n’ roll to center stage. The acceptance of this new genre of music would take time, but Elvis’ swiveling hips and smooth velvet voice had audiences and fans enraptured. Elvis’ final appearance on Stage Show was March 24, 1956 when he performed “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Money Honey.” Elvis changed from singing “Blue Suede Shoes” as previously planned when he discovered that his friend Carl Perkins, writer of the song and who was schedule to appear opposite him on The Perry Como Show, had been injured in a car accident. Instead Elvis sang “Money Honey” out of reverence for his ailing friend. Offered is a 16mm reel of Elvis’ final appearance on Stage Show on March 24, 1956. While the reel has not been transferred, it contains approximately 11 minutes of film with sound. There are typed labels taped to the metal "Eastman Kodak Company" metal film canister which read "Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey 'Stage Show' March 24, 1956 Saturday Night. Guest: ELVIS PRESLEY (His 6th & final guest shot on the show) Elvis Presley Sings 'Money Honey' and Heartbreak Hotel.'" This was truly the jumpstart for Elvis’ career and 1956 would prove pivotal for his ascent to superstardom. This reel, with its historic content, measures 7 inches (17.78 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The reel presents with little distress. NM condition.
